"Whatever you are, be a good one." - Abraham Lincoln
There is never a dull moment in St. Matthew’s middle school. Each day brings a new perspective and adventure when working with middle school students. Here's what inspires me daily:
The trust that is built among students within a class whether they have been together since pre-kindergarten or they have just welcomed a new member that year is palpable. The sense of community and camaraderie is overwhelming.
The connection and validation the older students feel is heartwarming as they reminisce and relive their own younger years through the school family projects, songs, activities, and traditions of the entire school community. This continues even as alumni return to visit.
The collegiality of the middle school faculty is invigorating, as they plan, laugh, create, and strategize together, throughout the school year. Their teamwork translates into the best teaching synergy a student could experience.
The confidence and self-advocacy our graduates display is something that is learned and practiced daily during the four years of middle school. From learning how to ask for extra help from a teacher in fifth grade, to sharing a life lesson with the entire community in a Chapel Talk in eighth grade, St. Matthew’s students excel at advocating for themselves and others.
I invite you to come visit and see for yourself what is most unique about St. Matthew’s!
