"Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." - Socrates
St. Matthew’s students are more willing to try new things and take risks because they know that they have supportive teachers and peers around them. Our students learn to ask questions and make discoveries to find answers for themselves, and to lead and speak in front of others. The academic program teaches mastery of reading, writing, and mathematics together with problem solving, critical thinking, and creative expression. This is our commitment to providing students the skills to flourish in the 21st century.
We believe that the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum, and our Responsive Classroom approach creates a caring, supportive classroom community. Each classroom starts the day with a morning meeting to build community. Then the students are off to engage with one another and build physical and social skills.
The strong sense of community at St. Matthew’s supports all learners, and encourages the consideration of all viewpoints and opinions. We recognize that each and every student has a unique method for learning, and we strive to differentiate our curriculum, wherever possible, to capitalize on the many learning styles that can be found in our classrooms. Teachers collaborate as a team to support our students' growth.
We are in the business of caring for children’s development and cultivating their love of learning brings us great joy. Come visit us soon.
