We welcome children from all religious and non-religious backgrounds. Approximately 10-15% of our student body is Episcopalian. St. Matthew's Episcopal is committed to serving a diverse student body representing a variety of cultural, economic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
PreKindergarten (4 years old): One section of up to 15 students with 2 teachers in each classroom. Grades K - 8: Up to 18 students per class or section, with up to 36 students per grade level.
Early Care: Available beginning at 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday for all grades. Afternoon Care: Available until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for all grades.
The Learning Center is a resource for students, parents, and teachers. We also have a School Counselor on staff who works with teachers, parents, students, and administration, to assist in identifying strategies and best practices to promote student social/emotional progress. St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School graduates are accepted at a wide range of independent, boarding, and public secondary schools. Learn more about our high school guidance program.
Parents are encouraged to volunteer with the Day School Parents' Association. The DSPA coordinates many volunteer “fun and fundraising” opportunities. In addition, there are a number of program-related field trips, community service experiences for parents and students to participate in together. More details here.
Our students get to school in a variety of ways. The majority of our students arrive at school via car/carpool. Students also walk or bike to school.
Our campus is located just two blocks from the downtown San Mateo Caltrain station. We have a growing community of students and faculty members that ride the train to and from school.
