Artists in St. Matthew's
First Grade Class
First grade students
analyzed and discussed a bark
painting from Mexico, noting
the imagery, colors and
shapes. Using imagery from
nature, students created
their own interpretations of
the bark painting.
Students were encouraged
to fill the space with a
variety of shapes, which they
painted and then adorned
with patterns and details
using colored pencils.
To finish the paintings,
students used markers to
emphasize the outlines
of the shapes.
