The life-long journey of learning begins long before our youngest students arrive in preschool at the age of three. The early childhood program at St. Matthew's spans three years and provides a nurturing, safe and enriched environment in which young children begin their formal educational journey.

To lay a firm foundation for future years while developing an eagerness for learning, the curriculum is rich in exploration, play, literature and oral expression and enhanced through an array of enrichment classes. To help young children develop self-confidence and comfort with their school environment as they progress from Preschool to Kindergarten, the curriculum is sequential and interrelated.

The early childhood program is based on a developmental philosophy that takes into account the essential readiness skills students naturally acquire as they mature. The curriculum is constructivist in design; students' discoveries, explorations and learning through doing forms the basis for the acquisition of academic and social skills.
