Dear Prospective St. Matthew’s Students, Parents and Friends:
Welcome to the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School application process and thank you for beginning the journey of getting to know our outstanding community. Serving students Preschool through Grade Eight, St. Matthew’s Episcopal is a private, independent, coeducational day school steeped in the core values of Academic Excellence, Service to Others, Respect for Diversity and Compassionate Community. St. Matthew’s students and families reflect the unique blend of cultural, ethnic, religious and secular traditions of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The “hidden jewel” of the mid-Peninsula, St. Matthew’s is located on a beautiful two-acre campus in downtown San Mateo. State of the art classrooms, laboratories and athletic facilities complement an outstanding faculty committed to providing exceptional instruction for each student through differentiation and best educational practices. Graduates of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School develop thoughtful leadership skills, academic confidence, admirable character and are well prepared for the highly selective independent, boarding, parochial and public high schools they choose to attend.
This is a very exciting time in our school’s history as we work toward the completion of St. Matthew’s Hall, which houses the Middle School as well as Fine Arts studios, Science and Maker Labs, research and literature library in addition to the phenomenal subterranean gymnasium! The campaign to “grow our school smaller” allows us the ability to inspire more students while at the same time reduces our class size to 15-18 students per classroom with a maximum of 36 per grade level.
Our Admission Team thoroughly enjoys working with each applicant and family and we are committed to informing and supporting you throughout the application process. We invite you to explore our website, call us, attend a Campus Tour, and join us at one of our Open Houses to best experience the unique qualities of a St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School education. We look forward to meeting you very soon!
Ellen M. Williamson
