Programs & Committees


Welcome to the Day School Parents' Association! We welcome and encourage your participation in any of the following areas.

Standing Committees


Hospitality: Provides refreshments for events throughout the year. This is a great committee for those who enjoy entertaining, baking and decorating. Chair: Anita Wu

Photography: Takes pictures at school, field trips, sporting events and performances. Chair: Tina Churich

Community Service: Coordinates community service opportunities for school families and assists with the students' Samaritan House bag lunch program. Chairs: Terri Boesh and Claire Jackson

Common Ground Speaker Series: Arranges speakers on education and parenting topics through a consortium of independent schools in the area, and assists at lectures. Chairs: Suzanne Jancsek and Molly Dillon

Library Support: Works with Librarian Kerry Fender to maintain the library. Chair: Ellen Peck

Uniforms: Operates DSPA recycled uniform program and coordinates with Dennis Uniform. New uniforms: Recycled uniforms: Rachael Bruins & Amelia Nash

Enrichment Assemblies: Works with school administration to select and arrange performers including dancers, puppet shows, acrobats and wildlife presentations. Chair: Jacque Bigelow

DSPA Events


Lower School Back to School Night, Thursday, September 17 and Middle School Back to School Night, Thursday, September 10: A light supper for parents before faculty and staff presentations and classroom visits. It's best to sign up to help at the event you are not attending as a parent.

Fall Festival, Friday, September 11: This family party on the school grounds kicks off the school year, and features dinner, music and fun for all ages. Co-chairs: Lisa Kearns, Kristi Pickering, and Jennifer Parker

Christmas Faculty and Staff Appreciation Breakfast, December 9. Co-chairs: Jordan Murray & Sara Hodge

Book Fair, March 17-22, 2010. Kepler's Bookstore sets up shop on campus, with proceeds to benefit the library. Chairs: Jacque Bigelow and Gale Winningham

Night of 1000 Stars, March 19, 2010. Students come to school in pajamas for the Lower School Talent Show. Blankets are then collected and donated. Chair: Michele Inouye

Authors' Days. Children's authors spend a day on campus and talk about the creative process with students. Chair: TBA

Ice Skating Party, March 27, 2010. A family party featuring ice skating lessons and light refreshments. Chair: Linda Aguirre

Art Show & Art/Tech/Music Night. Student projects take center stage as they show off what they've learned in these subjects. Chair: Fran Chapman

UNIFORM RECYCLE PROGRAM

The Uniform Recycle Program at St. Matthew's serves as a clearinghouse to pass along used uniforms to School families and as a fund-raiser for the DSPA.

• Uniform donations are collected from families.
• Uniforms are washed and in like-new or gently used condition.

How to Donate

If you have uniforms to donate, here is what you need to do:

• Leave donations in the Recycled Uniform bin at the school entrance.
• Call Rachael Bruins or Amelia Nash for pick up.

HOT LUNCH

The hot lunch program for 2009 - 2010 will be provided by Children's Choice, a certified Bay-Area Green Business. Lunches feature hormone-free meats and local, organic produce (when possible). Hot lunch service begins Tuesday, September 8th.

CLASS ROOM PARENTS
Throughout the year, room parents place calls to families in their class with specific requests for help. Assistance is needed at receptions after events such as the Thanksgiving Chapel, Christmas Pageants, May Day and Graduation ceremonies, to chaperone field trips or provide other assistance the classroom teachers may request through the room parents. These requests will come directly from your room parents during the school year and do not have online signups. Room Parents can download the Room Parent Handbook.
