Annual ReportWelcome to our new Online Annual Report, the home of information about our Annual Fund and the Day School Foundation! St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School is blessed to have the support of our generous and dedicated community of parents, grandparents, faculty, and friends of the School. In 2007-2008, we were extremely thankful that 100% of our Trustees and 100% of our Faculty contributed to our Annual Fund, and an impressive 94% of our parent community participated as well. In all, we raised over $360,000, a new record. In addition to gifts to operations and to tuition assistance, one family pioneered a new Headmaster’s Leadership Fund, which will be used to support special initiatives to promote the long-term future of the School. Your support ensures the permanence of our traditions, mission and values, developing our students’ intellectual curiosity, moral courage, confidence and character and maintaining our commitment to academic and personal excellence. In addition to our strong Annual Fund, our parent and community volunteers once again collaborated to create the 19th Annual Dickens House. This annual event, a Designer Showhouse and Holiday Boutique, raised over $230,000 in net proceeds for the Day School Foundation. The vision, leadership, dedication and sheer hard work of our parent volunteers is unparalleled in any School community. In 2007, our Dickens House team created the first Design Tour, a model that was replicated in our 20th Dickens House in 2008. Our students are fortunate for such creative and dedicated support, and the proceeds directly support the classroom experience. Together, these fundraising initiatives provide the revenue beyond tuition dollars to fund a first-rate education. Moreover, they provide enhancements that continually improve St. Matthew’s, from new “green lighting” throughout classrooms and hallways to a thorough renewal and replenishment of our library collection. And they give us the confidence to invest in our outstanding faculty and students, increasing our funds available for tuition assistance, investing in teachers’ talent through professional development funds, and creating new Curriculum Chairs, teacher leaders who will enhance the curricula from Preschool through Eighth Grade. I hope you enjoy our Online Annual Report, and on behalf of our students and teachers, I deeply extend my gratitude to our friends and contributors for your loyal support. Peace, Mark McKee Head of School
